Follow these steps to create your own beautiful Maine Cottage® Grand Mum pumpkin. If anyone creates their own pumpkin we’d love to see photos. We will post them on the blog and Facebook. Please send all photos to amber@mainecottage.com.

Tools:
You will need the following to complete your carving.

  • One pumpkin
  • Pumpkin Carving Kit — we purchased ours from Target
  • Speedball Linoleum Cutters — allows you to make fine cuts into pumpkin
  • One glass or mason jar — we will use this to wrap the lights around to place in pumpkin
  • String of lights or candle
  • Template of your choice
Instructions

Step 1

Using a Sharpie draw a circle around the top of the pumpkin

Step 2

Following the line you just drew use the saw tool to cut the top out.

Step 3

Scoop out all the seeds — the fun part ;)

Step 4

Place template onto pumpkin

Step 5

Trace template onto pumpkin. There are several different methods and it really depends on the complication of the template. We poked holes in the template and then placed marker over top those holes to ensure we were cutting out the correct parts.

Step 6

Wrap lights around glass or jar and place inside pumpkin. Plug in and enjoy the beauty. Of course you can also substitute good ole candles.

Have fun with it, it doesn’t have to perfect that’s the fun of it all. As you can see our design was inspired by Grand Mum Fabric but we didn’t hold ourselves to having to be 100% accurate, some artistic freedom is wonderful.

Here’s our final pumpkin, lit up and ready for our trick-or-treaters!

HAPPY PUMPKIN CARVING FROM MAINE COTTAGE! Don’t forget to send us your creations.

Ale is what ales our Tulla Tuffet today. Light, hoppy and happy, the Maine Cottage color Ale exudes the same crisp, warm glow as these beloved brews. Neither a pure yellow nor true orange, Ale is sophisticated and complex. It radiates as a solid color and combines effortlessly with other like colors in fabrics. Fabulous with neutrals and contrasting blues or bluegreens too, I guess you might say Ale’s a truly uplifting, versatile color. Kind of like a fresh pint in a favorite brewpub.

Try a Tulla Tuffet, armchair or sofa in any one of the luminous Maine Cottage fabrics shown here. Ale illuminates wicker and rattan seat cushions too, but we’ll save that for another day. In case you’re curious about what you’re seeing here, we’ve shown the Tulla Tuffet in these fabrics (from top to bottom): Luxe Yuri ale, May Flower pickle, Stripe Tease ale, Really Rosie ale, Tweet Suite sun, Grand Mum clay and Hotty Dotty ale. Request a swatch or buy them by-the-yard.

Ev’ry honeybee…. fills with jealousy
When they see you out with me
I don’t blame them….goodness knows
Honeysuckle rose

When you’re passin’ by….flowers drop and sigh
And I know the reason why
You’re much sweeter….goodness knows
Honeysuckle rose

Maine Cottage Guest Bedroom

It’s not just red, pink or magenta. It’s uplifting and festive. A sensory experience. Pantone (color experts) calls it “Honeysuckle” and declared it the 2011 color of the year. We thought you’d like to know. If you’re in the Maine Cottage school of thought, you’ll agree that even a small hint of reds, red-pinks, and red-violets give a room (or wardrobe) a similar burst of energy. Maine Cottage rhubarb, shrimp, zinnia and even smoothie fall into this category of pinkish warm reds. And remember how fantastic these warm hues look with cooler blues, bluegreens, greens and neutrals for added drama and stimulation. A bouquet of fresh flowers or a fruit smoothie can have the same invigorating effect on a January day.

Just in from a customer are several images of a sparkling condo in snowy Ontario, Canada filled with Maine Cottage color and fabric. Cathy Earle worked with Annie in our West Palm Beach, Florida store to purchase many yards of Maine Cottage fabric and breathe new life into upholstered and wicker furniture she already owns.

Maine Cottage fabric

We love her choice of Maine Cottage colors and how she mixed and matched Ann’s Labyrinth with Hotty Dotty patterns and solids to unify this space. White bricks, white trim, painted furniture and walls complete this joyful composition. How great to have a “Maine Cottage” in Canada. Love the stockings too!
