Need a mid-week-pick-me-up? Every Wednesday we post a quote or comment on our facebook page meant to provide a little bit of wisdom and whimsy. Selecting the perfect saying and coordinating it with one of our signature colorful patterns is a fun task for our designers. Follow along to see what we’ll post next week! Here’s four of our favorites so far:
Floral, graphic, or abstract, don’t these fabric patterns inspire you to upholster a cozy occasional chair, sew living room curtains, or order fabulous throw pillows? For more pattern play, view our Swatch Coordinates collection, which have been carefully curated by Maine Cottage® designers. They feature perfectly paired paints and fabrics for your interior—the possibilities are endless!
Porch is one of the most popular Maine Cottage® signature colors and many clients use the unique blue-green hue to completely color-drench their home’s interior color scheme! Others use it to add pops of relaxing touches in their sitting room, reading nook, or guest bedroom. Whether you prefer solid wood, wicker, or upholstered furniture in Porch, you’ll be sure to be pleased. It evokes reminiscing and laughing over lemonade and taffy while sitting on a painted front porch with family and friends after a day on the water. The subdued yet energized shade can add an uplifting spirit to any palette. How does our color Porch make you feel?

Upholstered on furniture, like sofas, loveseats, occasional chairs, or accessories, like pillows and curtains, they’re lively and really bring a space to life. Our fabric patterns are exclusively designed by a talented team of artists and feature a variety of florals, geometric shapes, stripes, and solids.
This homeowner chose to incorporate three signature Maine Cottage® patterns in the great room of their coastal cottage. A fun pattern inspired by birdwatching, a radial floral pattern, and a smaller scale pattern with organic shapes.

A monochromatic color scheme is a subtle way to show color in your home that’s perfect for your great room, guest bedroom, or entryway! Mix and match color to create a harmonious environment that’s both welcoming and special. Maine Cottage® colors are coastal inspired and feature 50 signature shades that coordinate with our custom painted wood, upholstered, and wicker furniture. If you need hue help, here’s a tip from one of our in-house experts:
Go monochromatic for a dramatic and fresh interior. ”Using tone-on-tone colors can unify a space and is a great solution for clients seeking an alternative neutral palette,” says Maine Cottage® Flagship Store Manager, Cathy Newman.
We happily discovered our Windsor Arm Chairs in the February 2011 issue of House Beautiful in an article “Light & Bright” about the makeover of a “Cape Cod-style cottage” in Venice, CA by interior designer Alexandra Angle. Angle refers to the newly finished house as being “young, light, and happy”, which is exactly how we like to characterize the Maine Cottage style. Read an interview with Angle about the project. See some of the light, airy rooms below.
“It’s like one of those long, beautiful ribbon candies in white and blue, with yellow stripe. It’s young, light, and happy. Houses need to make you experience a feeling, and each room should tell a story.”
- Alexandra Angle, House Beautiful
“The whole point was to have something that would show wear and tear, like those older East Coast country houses. That’s why I like painted furniture that will distress with elegance. It’s not going to look worse as dirty hands touch it.”
