Sea is the newest Maine Cottage color. Sea made its debut at the Charleston Designer Showhouse in April 2010. We mentioned it then, but want to make sure you discover it. Sea is a bluegreen with beautiful depth (like its namesake) and versatility – available in several Maine Cottage fabrics and as paint.

Sea joins the rest of our beachy Maine Cottage blues – Marine, Wave, Porch, and Bluebell – with ease and has already been slyly present in a few of our fabrics (ie: Sun Summer Bloom). Sample Sea in a fabric swatch or color chip card.

Is the word “hammock” enough to bring a smile to your face? A sense of peace and relaxation? It’s an iconic image of SUMMER. Free floating, suspended midair without a worry in the world. Bare feet. Soaking up the sun or keeping cool in the shade of trees. Hammock is synonymous with simplicity. Siesta. Easy living. Fun.

Hence the name Hammock for these Maine Cottage fabrics. Textural, cool and relaxed, Hammock fabrics are constructed for carefree indoor and outdoor use. Hammock’s a hardy synthetic fabric with a relaxed feeling (or “hand”) and protected by spill and stain-resistant Nano-tex. Easy to care for and easy to live with – in beautiful Maine Cottage colors. There are 6 (or more) ways to do just about everything in life. Decorating your home is no exception. Here’s an example of a sunny room where we’ve chosen a Maine Cottage color grouping and played with the sofa color only – in 6 different ways. The effect of one shift in hue can be subtle or dramatic – depending on the size, amount and placement. Curious about color and composition ideas for your home? We make it easy to custom finish furniture to your taste. Call us for a furniture and color consultation.

Audrey Room in yellow
Here’s a sunny well-composed room of warm whites, yellows, yellow-oranges and saturated oranges. A hint of red give it extra pizazz.
Audrey Room in light brown
For a lighter, brighter room try combining varied whites and soft yellow-oranges. Fabric patterns, wall color and pure orange give it punch.
Audrey Room in light brown
Experiment with neutrals warm and cool. The surrounding yellows keep this room warm and light.

Audrey Room in medium brown
A brown hue can be truly neutral if you want the sofa to recede – but the pillows and walls keep it from becoming too flat.
Audrey Room in dark brown
A large amount of red-orange brown as a neutral gives a room balance and depth when combined with lighter accents.
Audrey Room in dark brown
A richer reddish brown neutral gives this room the 6th way to a robustly sunny room.

Welcome to October with a more gargantuan post than usual (apologies for image load time). It was so much fun looking at orange “things” we thought we’d share the visual experience. Red-orange, orange, and yellow-orange are hues that pop! They are warm and uplifting. Full of a joyful energy and zest that’s hard to resist.

Our Maine Cottage Monty loves mango too: Grand Mum, Pure Linen and Sea Biscuit. Paint drops (from top): buttercup, mango, sun, white, ale, pear and clay.

Andy Warhol’s portrait of Lucille Ball (scroll down) says it all with that carrot top hair and hilarious expression. Maine Cottage mango is a striking orange too in fabrics and as an accent color. Combine it with other warm colors, including greens and neutrals for balance and good cheer. The right blue emphasizes contrast.

Here’s another interior by Maine Cottage co-founder Carol Bass. This time in a brightly-lit guest cottage (some would say “beach house”) near Charleston, South Carolina. Carol and partner Bob Newton collaborated to renovate and furnish this comfortable cottage from top to bottom using a wide variety of furnishings, including Maine Cottage, Carol’s original artwork, and a handmade dining table by Bob Newton.

Maine Cottage Owen Chair Maine Cottage Owen Chair Wingback chairs date back as far as we can see and beyond. Designed in an abundant range of styles over time, basic features remain true today: a broad straight back and “wings” at angles of 90 degrees or wider. It’s believed the original purpose of “wings” was to prevent drafts or protect the delicate skin of gentrified ladies in the 18th century from the heat of a roaring fireplace.

If necessity was the mother of the wingback chair’s invention, then we’re thankful for it. What other style chair matches the comfort and ease of a wingback? We looked around and found an abundance of interpretations of this beloved seating design – all refreshing and sometimes humorous. You can change the size, color and shape, but the fundamental form of a wingback remains delightfully the same. The Maine Cottage Owen and Eloise Chairs each have their own modern day design twists with the fabulous versatility of +200 fabric choices. Thank goodness for the 21st century!
